How can I trust God when life feels out of control?
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
There are seasons in life when the ground seems to shift beneath us — job loss, health crises, broken relationships, unexpected grief. In those moments, trusting God can feel less like peaceful surrender and more like clinging to a rope in a storm.
The Bible does not dismiss these feelings. Psalm 13:1 cries, "How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever?" The honesty of these prayers reminds us that struggling to trust is not the same as lacking faith.
Remember Who God Is
When circumstances are chaotic, anchor yourself in the unchanging character of God. He is sovereign — nothing is outside His control. He is good — even when life is painful. He is present — the Lord is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).Recall What God Has Done
The Israelites built memorial stones to mark moments when God delivered them (Joshua 4:1-7). Keep a journal of answered prayers and unexpected provisions. When doubt creeps in, look back at the record of His faithfulness.Speak Truth to Yourself
In Psalm 42:5, the psalmist asks his own soul, "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God." Sometimes we need to preach the gospel to ourselves.Lean Into Community
God did not design us to weather storms alone. Galatians 6:2 instructs us to carry each other's burdens. Let trusted friends and church members walk alongside you.Choose Trust as an Act of the Will
Trust is not always a feeling — it is often a decision. We choose to trust by obeying, by praying, by staying in His Word, and by refusing to let fear have the final word."When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee." — Isaiah 43:2 (KJV)God does not promise that life will always make sense. But He does promise to be with us through it all.
